Important decision of the central government of India : population census may begin in 2025, end of delimitation in 2028.

Great news has come to light regarding the population census conducted by the Central Government. Sources say that the population census could start in the country from next year. The censuses will start next year in 2025-2026. Due to the corona pandemic, the census which was supposed to be held in 2021 had to be postponed.

According to the information obtained from the sources, the census cycle will also change. Till now, the census was conducted every ten years at the beginning of the decade. For example, population censuses were started in the years 1991, 2001, 2011 etc. However, now after 2025, the next census will be in the years 2035, 2045, 2055.

The date has not been fixed but preparations are on

The census to be held in 2021 is likely to start in 2025. However, the date of the census is not yet fixed but the Chief Secretary is continuing the preparations. It is believed that the census will take at least 2 years. Some policy decisions regarding the census also have to be taken at the government level.

The delimitation of Lok Sabha seats will start after the census is over. The delimitation process is likely to be completed by 2028. Many opposition parties are also demanding a caste census but the government is yet to comment on the matter.

Can this important question be asked in the census?

The census usually asks about religion and social class. The generals, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes are on the list. It is said that this time too, people may be asked which sect they follow. For example, in Karnataka, Lingayats, who belong to the general category, are considered a separate sect.

Similarly, among the scheduled castes, there are different sects like Valmiki, Ravidasi etc. This means that the government is considering making it mandatory to conduct a census on the basis of religion, class and sect.
