India and China have reached an agreement on patrolling of troops on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a special press conference on Monday before PM Narendra Modi left for Russia for the BRICS Summit.
Vikram Misri said in the press conference, “For the past several weeks, talks were going on between India and China at the military level along with the diplomatic level. As a result, both the countries have reached an agreement on patrolling of troops on the LAC.”
Vikram Misri hopes that after this agreement, the soldiers of both the countries will retreat from the India-China border and the dispute that started on the LAC in 2020 will be resolved.
India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar told NDTV on Thursday, “In 2020, Indian soldiers will be able to patrol the border with China as far as they used to.”
In fact, after 2020, Indian soldiers were not able to patrol the areas where they used to patrol on the LAC. China had stopped it. Now when both the countries are again talking about an agreement on patrolling, S Jaishankar said that India will come to the situation of 2020.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to attend the BRICS Summit held in Kazan, Russia on 22-23 October. Chinese President Xi Jinping will also attend this summit. It is being said that a bilateral meeting can also take place between PM Modi and Xi Jinping.
Although Vikram Misri has not confirmed the bilateral meeting between the two heads of state, he has said that bilateral issues will be discussed.
Dozens of rounds of talks have been held to resolve the border dispute between India and China, but the two countries have not yet reached a final solution.
In 2020, there was a violent clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in eastern Ladakh.
In this, 20 soldiers of India were killed and many soldiers of China also died.
There has been tension between the two countries since then. However, it did not affect the trade of the two countries.
Bilateral trade between the two countries reached $ 136 billion in 2023. In 2022, the trade between the two countries was $ 135.98 billion.
The foreign ministers of China and India met in the last few months on the border dispute but could not reach any solution.
PM Modi had visited Russia in July itself
PM Modi is leaving for Russia’s Kazan on Tuesday for the 16th BRICS Summit. Modi had earlier visited Russia on 8-9 July. This is PM Modi’s second visit to Russia this year.
It is said that Russian President Putin can play an important role in reducing tensions between China and India because relations between Russia and China are very good.
But the tension between India and China has not arisen recently. The background of tension and war on the border between the two countries is very old.
China started encroaching on Indian territories in the mid-1950s. In 1957, China built a 179 km long road in the west through Aksai Chin.
The first clash between the soldiers of the two countries on the border took place on 25 August 1959. The Chinese patrol team attacked the NEFA frontier in Longju. On 21 October this year, firing took place in Kongka, Ladakh. 17 Indian soldiers were killed in this and China called it an action taken in self-defense.
India had then said that ‘its soldiers were suddenly attacked.’
