Cyclonic Storm Dana likely to hit Bengal and Odisha coasts today as administration busy in preparations

Cyclonic storm Dana may make landfall on the coast of West Bengal and Odisha today.

The governments of West Bengal and Odisha have said that preparations to deal with Cyclone Dana have been completed.

The railways have suspended over two hundred trains, including the Vande Bharat and Rajdhani Express, due to storm Dana.

As a precaution, the governments of West Bengal and Odisha have evacuated around three lakh people from coastal areas to safe places.

In both the states, all schools in coastal districts have been closed till October 25 and the leave of all government employees, including doctors, has been cancelled.

Storm Dana may make landfall between Puri and Sagar Island from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning. Due to this, heavy rainfall is possible on Thursday and Friday.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has tasked her secretary-level officials to monitor the situation in the districts that may be potentially affected by Dana. Many control rooms have been opened in the area.

About 1,000 relief camps have been opened. They have also been providing accommodation and food to the people in schools and government buildings in the region.

Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has asked tourists to cancel all hotel bookings for the next four days. He said that over 3,000 tourists were safely sent home from Puri on Tuesday. Some were also sent home on Wednesday morning. All hotels in Puri are almost empty at present.
