Two workers were killed and six others injured after the brakes of a locomotive removing earth failed on Monday afternoon in a metro tunnel under construction in Patna, Bihar’s capital.
The Pirbahor police station, where the incident took place, said station in-charge Abdul Haleem told the BBC: “Two workers died.” Manoj Bera and Vijay Bera. Both were residents of Odisha. Six other people injured in the accident are undergoing treatment. In this case, some of the workers are from Jamui in Bihar and others from Cuttack (Odisha).
However, Patna Metro’s public relations officer Monisha Dubey, who was present at the spot, confirmed the death of the worker.
The accident occurred near a tunnel under construction near Patna Science College. Neeraj Kumar, a journalist who was present there, said: “This locomotive had an engine that could not be controlled after it failed.” Two workers died there. After this incident, the employees were very angry.
Public Relations Officer Monisha Dubey said, “The accident occurred near Tunnel One at 10 pm. The case is under investigation.
Metro works are underway in Patna. In June this year, the state government also gave its in-principle approval to operate the metro in Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Darbhanga and Bhagalpur.
